PART 2: KCSE ELITE, WHERE ARE THEY NOW

Here we go again, the top brains in our country in terms of KCSE, where they went to and where they are now. Thank you for all your comments, tweet mentions, Facebook comments and e-mails regarding Part 1. I emailed KNEC to confirm the list of the top performers but they have not replied yet. Be inspired.

KIRIMANIA MURIITHI (1994) - ALLIANCE HIGH SCHOOL
He was top in KCPE in Laikipia district in 1990 which gave him entry to join the ‘elite’ Alliance High School. MIT calls Alliance Elite. That’s cool. He was the first among his family of cow herders to attend school hence the first one to wear shoes. He traveled 15 miles from his village to his school daily to quench his education thirst. Muriithi emerged top of KCSE in 1994 or as he said, “No one ever got the marks I did". He received the news that he was top while herding cows with his father in Ntrukuma village.  He later got a full scholarship from Massachusets Institue of Technology to study Electrical Engineering where he also got his masters. He worked under Bill Gates at Microsoft  before being appointed as Senior Software Engineer at Mercury Computer Systems. He was promoted to Senior Firmware Engineer in the same company, a position he currently holds. You can read his amazing story here.
You can also check on Segeni Ngethe who got his masters from Stanford university and co-founder of Mamamikes.com, an e-commerce site for Kenyans in the diaspora. He is a founder of many media and commerce orginisations according to his linked-in account. Owns a media that broadcasts in Nairobi Matatus. Also have look on Lawrence Riungu who has had the privilege to work in several high profile financial companies including Wallstreet and is currently an Investment officer at Centum Investment Company, the largest quoted investment company in East Africa. Nicholas Olweny joined Yale as an undergraduate to study electrical engineering and he came out with a PhD.

MARTIN MBAYA (1995) - ALLIANCE HIGH SCHOOL
After topping KCSE, he joined Strathmore College at that time for a diploma before being admitted to MIT to study Mechanical Engineering and concentrated on Japanese language. He later went to Havard where he graduated with a doctorate in international trade and finance. He worked as an application developer at Tenfold, a consultant at EKI Consulting, as a Director/administrator of Executive programs at Strathmore Business School and as a Global Financial Analyst / Treasury Management Fellow in Havard University. He is currently the director at Nairobil Capital Inc where he is also the co-founder. You can access his website here although it seems to have expired currently and is pending renewal  but he has a well organized linked-in account. You can also take a look on Micheal Rono who was the Basketball Captain and House Captain in his year at AHS.

JAMES MWANGI (1995) - ALLIANCE HIGH SCHOOL
Another one is James Mwangi who was deputy captain to Micheal Rono. TOP KCSE PERFORMERS: WHERE ARE THEY NOW

8-4-4 elite (part 1)
This post is special. By now I haven’t got a title for it.  First, because this is my first post using Ms Office 2010 professional. Yawa! Got a cracked full version from my strath pal. But that’s just a by the way. What makes its special is the content, the starring characters in this piece and their greatness. Not a drop, a whole bottle of it. But more special to me is how it will inspire you.
I hinted to you that this post is inspired by Keriako Tobiko. Yeah that’s right, the guy Kenyans want to roast so that he won’t prosecute them later. His peers have also been stripped nude in the eyes of the public. This is a compliment in fact because what they have undergone has no expression (that studded guy being asked if he was gay by a woman was a deep insult. Even gays are not asked if they are gay. The question is, Are you straight? Period). Let’s leave that for another day.
As you may not know, Keriako Tobiko was the top performer in the National Examinations in 1985. Thanks to Hon. Mwakwere for this info by the way. From there he rose to hold one of the highest office in the country, THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR. Now he is waiting to be confirmed as the first person to hold the office of THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTION. I don’t know what is the difference but Kenyans ordered change and this is what we were served. Keriako’s achievements brings me to my question, Where do all this top achievers who bring joy to their school and community in late February and early March go to and what are they now? I did my own research and here is the few I got from google and linkedin. Thanks also to kenya47 and Kenayproffesionals. GREATNESS.
Dr. naeem samnakay (1989) - alliance high school
He did what none has ever done, to my knowledge. He came top in KCPE when it pioneered in 1985 and went on to be top of the Elite when the first KCSE result was announced in 1989. He proved that none was greater than him in the new 8-4-4. He went on to study medicine Harvard under a scholarship and is currently a subiaco pediatric surgeon and urologist in Australia. He has won the prestigious “Sir Edwards Hughes Memorial Clinical Research Prize in Surgery in the year 2004. Not much of him is found on the web, considering his profession. His classmate was Mugo Kibati who was also among the Elite performers of KCSE 1989 and he went on to study electrical engineering in Moi University and later a leadership program in MIT. Now he is the Director General of Kenya Vision 2030 Secretariat.
Shahir Salyani (1989)-alliance high school
He was also the best in pioneer KCSE but Dr. Samnakay stole the thunder from him. He received a full scholarship from MIT to study Electrical Engineering and proceeded to earn an MBA from the prestigious MIT Sloan School of management. His thirst for education earned him another MBA from University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of business. He first worked as a growth strategist at Milliken Inc USA before being appointed the director corporate development at Kinetic Concepts Inc. in San Antonio, Texas, USA. He is currently the senior director, corporate development at the same company.

Also worth a Google are Dennis Ouma who completed his undergraduate through PhD under 8 years and John Gachora Mburu recommended his principal Mr. Khaemba to be acknowledged by MIT for the distinguished teachers awards not forgetting Kigen Kandie who owns a company known as Mobile Planet Limited in Puerto Rico.

FRED WERE (1990)-STAREHE BOYS CENTRE
As a result of his performance he got a full scholarship to study medicine in Harvard University. He is currently a Medical researcher in the US. That’s all I found about him. But his peers who appeared in VOK that year are also worth a Google. They are Waiyaki Buliro who studied in Northeastern University in the US and is now a Business analyst at Amica Mutual Insurance in Boston, Peter Orondo who studied in MIT and now owns a computer and network security consultant company in Boston called Acclaim Consulting Group Inc. and Chris Macharia who is the Configuration Manager at Fidelity information Services, Houston.

Humphrey wattanga (1991) alliance high school
Briefly studied medicine in University of Nairobi after his O levels but was unfortunately cut short due to frequent strikes as politicians used students to champion their fight for multiparty democracy. But a blessing in disguise he proceeded to Harvard on a full scholarship to pursue Health Science. He then moved to Wharton school of business where he got his MBA. He was the first recipient of Hope Unity Award Scholarship on May 8 in the year 2000. . He is currently a managing Partner, Extra Dimension Consulting in Johannesburg, South Africa. Worth a Google is Samuel Chasia who owns Bushfire Capital Management in New York

Gilbert tengetta (1992) MANG’U HIGH SCHOOL
Not much is known of him apart the university which he went to which is University of South California and his profession, an engineer and researcher.

Kaniaru wacieni (1993) alliance high school
He got his undergraduate in Harvard, an honors degree in Economics and later an MBA in the Harvard School of Business. He is now an investment banker at CS First Boston in Massachusetts, USA. Somebody told me he has ever worked in Wall Street but I could not clarify it. He has a blog www.capitalisable.blog132.fc2.com and has written articles for Havard University.. Ephraim Olweny is worth a Google as he was not only a top performer in 1993 but went on to top all his units in his undergraduate Biological Science degree. He practices Medicine.

BEST KENYAN DATA BUNDLES: jobe’s theory

BEST KENYAN DATA BUNDLES: jobe’s theory
When I got my Ideos, the most affordable Smartphone in Kenya, and the 600 MB data which safaricom offered, I thought I would last with it for 60 days or so. With my java phone, I had been using 5MB which lasted for more than 24 hrs. So the 5 dozen days were the least I expected to use them. But after 2 weeks I had consumed all of them. For sure I had underestimated the capabilities of the Smartphone. 86% of the applications on it depend on internet usage. I was happy later when I was told the bundle was to last for a month only. I later learnt that the sole purpose of the intelligent cons at safaricom was to encourage more Kenyans to join the data market of which most will join them because they have the only 3G network (Orange lies to Kenyans when they say they have 3G+ which instead is CDMA EVDO. They should be sued. Lol).
So I wanted to buy another 600MB bundles till I heard the price Safaricom sold it at. 1000/=. I normally use the Orange modem on my PC and the prices were fairly affordable. My most popular bundle was the 200MB for 250 bob. Below am going to compare for you the different Data bundles among the 4 providers.

Note: I have rounded off the figures for those who are cheated by ‘psychological selling’.

This brings me to my sole purpose of writing this post. I have come up with a theory which will enable you effectively choose one. Let’s call it JOBE’S THEORY.
If you are to choose bundles, let not your determinant factor be speed, but let it be the cost. This is because the bundles will perform the same function no matter how long it takes. For example, let’s say you are downloading The Nino Brown Story which is about 100MB. Safaricom will download it in less than hour due to its 3G capabilities while orange in less than 2 hours or so while Yu and Airtel will download in over 4 hours. However after 4 hours we will all have the album but Yu subscribers will be sh.900 richer than safaricom subscribers. Get it? Some of you may argue about watching you tube videos. But why watch them when you can download (idm and YouTube downloader) them even on your phone with ‘tube mate’.  I bet none of you stream live TV shows with limited bundles unless you are of Uhuru Kenyatta’s caliber. NOTE: WHEN OPENING PAGES LIKE FACEBOOK AND YAHOO MAIL THEY OPEN AT MORE OR LESS THE SAME SPEED WHEN USING ANY PROVIDER.
However when choosing unlimited data plans, please consider the speed. Yu is a bit faster than airtel. Airtels sucks. BIG! Its flow is not consistent. There is a time that it normally transmits 0 bytes for minutes and in numerous occasions it disconnects itself. Yu is virtually unlimited since its daily unlimited only gives you 300mb while its weekend unlimited gives you only 400MB. UNLIMITED DATA PLANS ARE GOOD FOR THOSE WHO DOWNLOAD TORRENTS AND STUFF.
My conclusion is that the bundle which is Winning is the 600mb data bundle for YU which only goes for a bamba 100. Ya YU nkt.

PS.
WE HAVE NO ZUQU OR ACCESS KENYA IN ELDORET.

GAY ASPECT FROM THE BIBLE

To clear the air on the gay matter, here is a research from the Holy Bible about this issue. First, God does not tolerate this. In leviticus 18:22 it says, 'do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable'. Moreover, in leviticus 20:13 it says ' if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death...........' One may argue that Jesus came to clean the old testament laws but the gay matter is also condemned in the new testament. In 1 corinthians 6:9 it says ' ..... Neither the sexual immoral ......... Nor homosexual offenders ..........will inherit the kingdom of God. So the scientist who said he had found the gay gene should consider to be dumb since his intelligence is not helping him. We all are fearfully n wonderfully made.

5 REASONS WHY CARLO SHOULD HAVE LEFT

FIVE REASONS WHY KING CARLO HAD JUST TO LEAVE
So we lost to ten man Everton on the last day of the league which axed kingcarlo’s managerial job. The loss was just a summary of just how poor we were this season despite finishing as runners up. Few will blame Carlo for the problem but as the manager he is responsible for our success as well as our failures. The last thing I expected was ancelotti to get an axe as the manager and was in full support of him to continue for another 5 years as the manager. Unfortunately, Roman had other ideas. On Sunday I could not sleep over it but I woke up on Monday with full support of the club’s decision. Here are 5 reasons why.
5. POOR LINE-UPS.
This is the major weakness I saw during Ancelloti term. We had no specific “first 11”. Only a handful of players were guaranteed the first place, i.e. Terry, Lampard, Cech, Ashley Cole, Ivanovic and somehow Ramires and magnificent luiz. All the others knew their fate a few hours before the start of the match. I will give examples. During the semifinal of the champions’ league, he left ramires and drogba out of the starting line up in the second leg and started with Torres who was low on confidence. Also you don’t have faith in young players like Josh who have impressed in the few minutes they have played for the club. You also substituted drogba and left Anelka (he just has to leave) in the man city game which we lost by a single goal and brought sturridge in the last 15 minutes. Sturridge played well but he had no target in the box as Anelka loitered in the midfield. This meant our team had no Coordination unlike last season where there was a team for specific games.
4. INCONSISTENCY.
Carlo’s inconsistency in performance is not new to him. He started his career at Reggiana where he made them promoted to serie A in his first season but left to Parma. In Parma, he made them qualify to the champions’ league but finished fifth in the second season to at least guarantee them a UEFA CUP place. He stayed there for 2 seasons. In Juventus, won a cup in the first season but went trophyless in the two but at least secured 2nd place. So is his case with Chelsea. Moreover we had a funny win lose pattern this season. No consistent wins. We won 1 game in pre-season and also lost in the community shield. We started the league with two 6-0 wins and other wins but succumbed to Newcastle in the carling cup. Then we went on to lose to man city in the league, couple of games, beat arsenal, then Liverpool walked over us which started our poor form. We lost 3-0 to Sunderland, beaten by Birmingham, drew with Newcastle, Everton, tottenham, we were gunned down by arsenal, and Aston villa equalized late against us. Then we lost to below Par Wolves. We were 9 points of Manchester united but we went to trail them by 15 points. In fact 18 during halftime of the game with them on March 1st. somehow he recovered to get close to three points but blew it when we lost two points to Stoke and finally losing at oldTrafford. Furthermore he did not get a win in his last two games. He is unpredictable…… in a bad way. (To be continued)
3. TRANSITION IN CHELSEA
The club has been undergoing major changes since they decided to release the Magnificent Michael Ballack and other ‘not-so-magnificent’ players. Our assistant coach left so did our director of football and youth Chief Frank Arnesen. Ray Wilkins also left after his contract ended and was not sacked as claimed. So I don’t know why Ancelloti whined a lot because he should have planned for it. We saw how the change of one man (Ray Wilkins) affected our performance for the rest of the season. Thus we need to change all the positions at once to start afresh.  This is the right time to bring another manager along with other scouts and directors. Remember this is what Roman did when he bought the club and you all know the results. Hope this will work.
2. ROMAN ABRAMOVICH HAD TO MAKE A STATEMENT.
Yeah. I know all the fans were disappointed including me when Carlo was axed. But roman was doing this for the fans. He had to make a statement to us to ensure that he is still in full control of the club. To make sure that the club still performs. To make sure that we still win trophies. The club statement released when Ancelloti was sacked said it all – due to the club’s dismal performance this season. And by sacking Ancelloti he made that assurance that he is there for Chelsea to win trophies and does not condone poor performances.
1.  CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TROPHY
I will just leave it at that. That is my obsession with the ‘big-ears’ trophy, so is Roman and most importantly so are you. Thatsall.
